Dear Members,
I am Insil Chang, the 9th president of the Korean Association for Multicultural
Education(KAME).
Founded in 2008, the Korean Association for Multicultural Education was the first
association in Korea dedicated to multicultural education. Since its establishment, the association has grown steadily
and made significant academic advancements alongside Korea’s transformation into a multicultural society. I believe
that the achievements of our association today are the result of the hard work of our past presidents and the passion
of our members.
The Korean Association for Multicultural Education is now firmly established as a
leading international association. Our annual international conferences bring together scholars, researchers, and
educators from North America, Europe, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia to engage in lively presentations and
discussions on various aspects of multicultural education, thereby playing a leading role in shaping the global trends
in multicultural education.
As the 9th president of the Korean Association for Multicultural Education, I aim to
build upon our existing traditions and create opportunities for further growth. To this end, we will not only continue
to play an active role on the international stage but also strive to revitalize multicultural education research in
Korea and foster a stronger sense of belonging among our members. In particular, the future of our society lies in the
hands of our next generation of scholars, including emerging scholars and graduate students who are conducting
research and studying multicultural issues. Our association will serve as a platform for these young scholars to
connect and develop a sense of belonging, and we will create opportunities for them to interact with senior scholars.
Furthermore, the Korean Association for Multicultural Education will collaborate with various institutions, including
education offices and local governments across the country, to promote the multicultural education that Korean society
needs.
The Korean Association for Multicultural Education is an academic community for all
scholars and educators who are interested in multicultural societies and multicultural education. The 9th executive
committee has set a goal of "promoting the academic growth and practical application of multicultural education in
Korea" and will be conducting a variety of academic activities. To achieve this goal, your affection, interest, and
active participation are essential.
I wish all members happiness and good health.
Thank you.
January 2024
Insil Chang, 9th President, The Korean Association for Multicultural Education.
